Abstract

Background: Hypertension is the most common disease experienced by the general public, especially in people living in low-income countries. In maintaining normal blood pressure, several therapies are needed, including non-pharmacological therapy, one of which is ginger aromatherapy. Ginger aromatherapy is known to have various active ingredients and applications that can be used to lower high blood pressure.

Objective: This study aims to determine the various contents and applications of ginger aromatherapy as an antihypertensive

Method: Literature study using search engine databases, namely Google Scholar, Science Direct, and PubMed with article publications ranging from 2019-2024. The literature search strategy involves keywords related to the topic and title of the study using the standard Boolean operators "AND" and "OR". Keywords include “ginger aromatherapy” OR “ginger essential oil” AND “hypertension” OR “blood pressure” OR “blood pressure”

Results: 5 articles were obtained showing the content and application of ginger aromatherapy which has an effect on lowering blood pressure or as an antihypertensive

Conclusion: The content of gingerol and zingiberol as well as the application of foot soaks (topical) and inhalation (inhalation) can lower blood pressure in people with hypertension
