Abstract

Background: Vulva hygiene is an activity to maintain the external genital organs (vulva) to prevent infection. The impact of ignorance about vulva hygiene itself can be vaginal discharge, itching, and irritation in the genital area. Understanding vulva hygiene in female students at Islamic boarding schools is very important considering that female students live with their friends without parental supervision so that many of the female students do not know how to clean the vulva properly.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the level of knowledge and attitudes before and after the simulation method counseling using audiovisual media and slides.

Method: This study is a quantitative study using pre-experimental with a one group pre-post test research design. The population of this study was 20 female students from class VIII at Ibnul Qoyyim Islamic Boarding School. The sampling technique in this study used a purposive sampling technique where the determination of the sample was taken with certain criteria, the bivariate test used was Wilcoxon.

Results: Based on the results obtained from 20 respondents, the level of knowledge and attitudes of respondents increased from sufficient to good categories, namely the mean value for knowledge from 67.10 to 97 and the mean value of attitudes from 60.15 to 95. Analysis of the results of the level of knowledge and attitudes was measured using the Wilcoxon test with a result of p 0.000 <0.05 for knowledge and attitudes. Conclusion: There is a difference in the level of knowledge and attitudes before and after the simulation method counseling with audiovisual media so that the simulation method is effective in increasing the knowledge and attitudes of adolescent girls.
